A Commercial Kitchen and Pests

Restaurant owners and businesses with commercial kitchens that serve food spend much of their business expenses preparing delicious food for their customers. Unfortunately, they also have unwanted guests who look to enjoy their food too: Mice, rats, cockroaches and more look to get a free meal along with the restaurant’s REAL clients. For this reason, part of the planning of a commercial kitchen must include strategies that will help eliminate those unwanted pests from occupying the kitchen.

Keep mice out of your commercial kitchen

Constant Monitoring For Pests

Like buying fresh produce, commercial kitchen managers must monitor their kitchen for any signs of pests. Seeing one roach or ant may mean there are hundreds that are in hiding. When you see one, it is important to know exact where this pest is coming from and what it’s food source is. By eliminating the food source, you encourage the pest to move on. Finding and removing a hidden nest of a particular pest will eliminate future problems.

Seal Entry Points

Rats, mice and other disease ridden pests are experts at finding entry points to obtain their food. As an owner or manager of a commercial kitchen, you must be an expert too. Sealing all entry points will encourage unwanted visitors to move on.

Clean Regularly In A Commercial Kitchen

While this seems like a common sense statement, a busy commercial kitchen can possibly miss this point. Cleaning regularly is everyone’s responsibility in the restaurant. Training staff to thoroughly clean utensils, stoves, refrigerators and more will make the likelihood of pest infestation remote.

Seal Containers In A Commercial Kitchen

Pests find unsealed food fast and can contaminate a commercial kitchen. Use good sealing containers that will not allow smells or openings to attract pests.

No Moisture - No Pests

Eliminate sources of moisture. Pests LOVE moist locations. They thrive on standing water. Check for water leaks and repair them as soon as possible. Make sure all drains are clean and unobstructed. Just taking these steps will encourage pests to look elsewhere for food.
