Fruit Flies

Fruit Flies

Fruit flies can be a real bothersome pest. They not only cause a nuisance but can also contaminate your food. It’s alarming how rapidly their population can build up and before you know it, you might be dealing with a full-blown infestation.

Appearance

They are 3 mm (0.125 inches long. They have red eyes. Their thorax is brown and their abdomen is black, with a gray underbelly.

These tiny flying creatures, also known as Drosophilas, have a powerful attraction towards a variety of objects. It’s astonishing to know that their interests include ripened fruits and vegetables, which are considered to be the ideal breeding spots for them. But, they don’t stop there! The fermenting products, such as beer and wine, seem to be irresistible to them as well, which is quite troublesome given their love for congregating in large numbers. Not just that, but fruit flies can also find their way into empty bottles and cans, and even wet mops and rags. Their tendency to flutter around and multiply at a rapid rate makes them a common annoyance in households and workplaces alike. Therefore, it’s crucial to take preventive measures to keep them at bay, such as covering exposed food and cleaning up spillages promptly.
